Hello and welcome to My Weekly Geekery, the show in which I talk about what's been
going on in my geeky world over the past seven days. I'm back home now so you get
to look at this background again.
In Doctor Who news it has been announced that the 50th anniversary
special will be aired simultaneously in
over 70 countries. It will also be broadcast in over 200 UK cinemas. Countries
showing the 75-minute
long special at the same time as the UK include the USA, Canada
Australia, Brazil and Mexico. In other Doctor Who news two 50th
Anniversary teasers were aired
on BBC1 on Saturday on either end of Atlantis.
These reveal the official hashtag of #savetheday and the official ident
accompanying the celebrations on the BBC. A full length trailer will be
available soon it has been promised. It has been promised.
In Harry Potter news The Goblet of Fire has come to Pottermore. As a proud Hufflepuff,
winners of the last House Cup,
I got to view the moments a day early.
I really liked them, they're not all buggy, they're very beautiful and
incredibly detailed.
There are ten new moments to explore which take us up to Harry's return to Hogwarts
for his fourth year.
in other Harry Potter news, Warner Bros has trademarked several more terms related to
the Harry Potter universe including
the Tales of Beedle the Bard and Quidditch Through the Ages, and several more Quiditch related terms.
Does this mean more film-related excitement for Harry Potter fans in
the future?
Who can know these things? A new trailer has been released for The Hobbit: the
Desolation of Smaug, the second Hobbit
film. This trailer features Smaug played by Benedict Cumberbatch.
The Hobbit: the Desolation of Smaug will be released on Friday 13th
December.
I love saying Smaug. The final episode of Breaking Bad aired
in the last week with record ratings in the US. Shows returning to the US in the last
week include Homeland
and Once Upon a Time, the former of which returns to the UK on Sunday at 9 p.m.
on Channel 4.
Unfortunately we will have a lot longer to wait until Once Upon a Time returns to
us.
And finally, news I'm quite excited about. BAFTA has changed the rules for its TV
Awards
and TV Craft Awards, and has made web-based shows eligible for the awards for the
first time. This means that companies like Netflix and shows like House of Cards,
Breaking Bad, and Orange is the New Black
are now eligible to go up against shows from broadcasters like the BBC and Sky.
So in conclusion, the Harry Potter fandom is enjoying its time in the limelight before
the Doctor Who fandom takes over in November. The Lord of the RIngs fandom is
waiting in the wings.
Also look out for the Hunger Games, Sherlock and Game of Thrones fandoms, in fact all fandoms,
Whatever you are a fan of life is pretty exciting right?
This has been My Weekly Geekery.
