From the World Campus Library homepage at libraries.psu.edu/wc you can access the New York Times Historical database.
Select Databases in the blue box, and then type new york times in the search box. From this list you will see several options.
Be sure to select the first result - the New York Times Historical (available from 1851) to search for sports stories in 1924.
Using the Advanced Search page, select Specific Date Range from the Publication Date dropdown menu.
Enter January 1, 1924 as your start date, and December 31, 1924 as your end date.
Then click Search. This search yields a results list of over 128,000 hits of news stories from 1924!
Narrow your hits by searching within these results from 1924 with sports related keywords. For example, search for "boston red sox."
Be sure to use quote marks around "boston red sox" to search these words together as a phrase. Our search now yields a results list of 86.
Note that you may sort your results by Relevance, oldest Publication Date, or most recent Publication Date.
From the results list we will select story #2 by clicking on the Full-Text PDF icon. This will allow us to preview the story.
You will see various options like Email, Print to fit, and Cite near the top right corner. To view the entire newspaper page, click on Page view (clickable).
From here you can also Email, Print, and Cite. You can also navigate to other pages of the newspaper and click on stories to preview content.
Now you can identify sports stories and other newspaper content from 1924!
