The splatter shield is good for a number of things. First the title splatter would make
you think that it's going to keep everything inside this isn't always true although it
helps a great deal. One of the best things it's for is when you're incorporating ingredients
while the mixer is already on. So if you're whisking something you can just pour your ingredients in while
it's mixing and you don't have to worry about them traveling to far a field. This works
much better with liquids than with using flower or sugar other drier ingredients have a tendency
to still be able to kind of splatter a bit. Cause they are more of a powdery texture which
it's still going to come up but if you're using adding liquid ingredients this could
be invaluable.
You can see how this is caught splatters of the water on the edge so this is what you
are trying to avoid and getting that out. However if you are adding in dry ingredients
after liquid they are probably going to stick to your splatter shield. So while it's useful
for many things it's not a cural and you still have to take into account what you are adding
and how fast your mixer is going before counting on the splatter shield to keep everything
inside.
