Hello Falcons! My name is Jonathan Keilholz and I am a student here at BGSU.
College can be both fun and scary. This is the unofficial guide to life
at Bowling Green State University. This is Pieces of BGSU.
St. Thomas More is the Catholic University parish located right across
from BGSU.
Catholic Mass is offered daily at the church, but campus minister Peter Range
says there's more to their mission than these services.
One of the things that we try to do is just to be on campus, to be a presence,
to love people. I think so many people out there don't know that they are loved,
no matter who they are, what they have done, where they have come from. No matter
where you are at your journey,
we want to walk with you. So whether that is handing out popsicles the first three weeks of school,
or here at St. Tom's. we put together a retreat that happens just once a
semester.
In addition to retreats and campus events, Father Jason says St. Thomas More
offer students a place to feel safe.
That is what I really want St. Tom's to be.
A place you can come, relax, hang out, play pool, play Ping-Pong,
do your homework, pray. I really want it to be a welcoming place.
A place that is open, a place that is welcoming for all peole.
St. Thomas also works closely with Veritas, which is a campus
organization for BGSU students.
The group meets every Wednesday evening at 7:30 in Room 308 of the Student Union.
Peter says Veritas allow students to engage with difficult questions.
Deep down we're looking for purpose, looking for what is this all about. Why am I alive?
College is a great opportunity to ask those very questions.
Father Jason says St. Tom's is different than most parishes.
What makes it unique is the University. If BGSU was not here in Bowling Green, St. Thomas would not be here.
There is a lot of energy
because there is a lot of young people. In some of the Catholic parishes maybe where the students grew up, it is
mostly an older type person thing, your grandma and grandpa and stuff like that.
Here you come to our 5 p.m. Mass and it is all students.Father Jason
also says there is something for everyone at St. Thomas.
We have something every day of the week and
it is pretty packed, it is pretty awesome.
If you'd like to learn more about Veritas or any of these weekly events,
you can check out the link in the description. Thanks for watching this
edition of Pieces of BGSU.
