Well, a viewer asked an important question. "I have increased stress around the holidays.
Is there anything I can do to help manage this?" Well, yeah, and definitely when we
look at it from a seasonal standpoint, you know, the holidays, November, December, into
January, you know, have an inherent conflict in them because our body wants to relax, recharge,
stay home more, and yet we have great demands. And, you know our diet needs to be simple
and warming, and yet we're asked to go to parties or socializing. There's more treats
at work. We have sugar, alcohol, and heavier foods, you know, egg nog is a good one, it
includes all of that, you know, especially spiked egg nog. So, we want to maintain what
we can. We want to make sure that we're going our health habits and, you know, manage the
holidays a bit more in the sense of, you know, don't, maybe you have to say yes to certain
things and no to others. So, it takes some discrimination. And, also the choices we make
when we go there, you know, if you're going to have a treat, you know, limit it in terms
of the sweets or the amount of alcohol you have, you know, and that's important. But,
like any season, we want to make sure our diet's in balance, you know, and exercise
and managing stress. So, take some down time. Schedule some extra time for yourself. Or
even get away. You know, have a spa day. Go swim and get a massage, then sit in hot baths
if you have that available to you. You know, that's a good time, and you can take some
friends with you and socialize and make it a fun day. And, I find this also, when we
eat a more congesting diet, which, you know, I think for me is if I eat too much, if I
eat dairy which I normally don't eat too much, and breads or baked goods, you know, my body
starts to feel a little congested. Then, we're more prone for germs, that we're exposed to
more regularly, to kind of settle in and and cause problems, so if I feel myself getting
a little bit like that, and a little too congested, I lighten up. I'll drink a lot more fluid,
lemon water. And I find, for me, nutrients that help me protect me, I have zinc and elderberry
lozenges. I do fresh garlic. If I start to feel like I'm getting sick, I'll increase
my vitamin A for a couple days. I'll do fresh garlic, increase vitamin C, sometimes mushroom,
maitake mushroom. Those are the things that I find, and zinc lozenges sometimes with elderberry
extract, sometimes is helpful for people as well. These are some ideas that you can do
to keep your health around the holidays. And, for sure, if any issues come up, talk to your
doctor and get checked out, and find out what's going on with you and, a lot of times, you
know, if we do too much, we have to go home and rest and take a couple days off work and
parties, so, you know, it's why it's so important to manage things and do what seems to be the
right amount for you and not too much. Happy Holidays.
