In this video, we're going to look at how to access ebrary e-books...
...available from the University of Manitoba Libraries.
ebrary e-books are readily identifiable by the ebrary name in the URL required to access them.
If you come across an ebrary e-book, or any other e-book in the catalogue...
...you simply need to click on the URL to access it.
If you're accessing an e-book off-campus...
...you'll be required to input your seven digit student number and library PIN.
...in which you can search the Table of Contents...
...in which you can search the Table of Contents...
...or click into individual chapters.
You can also use the arrow keys to turn the pages in the e-book.
The e-book also allows you to search for specific terms or keywords.
In this instance, I'm going to look for "St. Louis Cardinals"
And now I can use the magnifying glass icon to search for these terms within the e-book...
...and have them highlighted.
If you set-up an ebrary account...
...you'll be able to engage in additional activities within the book.
For instance, you can annotate and highlight sections of the book.
Download a copy of the book to loan.
And find additional information available on the web about elements found in the book.
To download the book, you'll first need to have a copy of Adobe Digital Editions installed on your desktop.
If you are using a tablet, you can install a copy of the Bluefire app.
Once you've done this, you can click download.
In many ebrary e-books from the University of Manitoba Libraries, you'll have the option...
...to create a PDF of specific chapters or page ranges.
Or download an entire book for a specific borrowing period.
By downloading the book, you'll also have offline access to the book.
Then you can open or save the book...
...which in this case will be in an EPUB format, to Adobe Digital Editions.
You will be able to transfer the book to e-reader devices that support the EPUB format...
...such as the Sony E-Reader or the Kobo.
But not the Kindle.
And there we have a downloaded book.
We can scroll up and down using the mouse or trackpad to read through the pages.
We can also click on the Table of Contents to find specific chapters within the book...
...as well as searching for terms within the book...
...which as in the web browser edition are highlighted.
If you have any further questions about how to download e-books...
...please visit the service desk at any University of Manitoba Libraries' location.
