Hi Everyone. I'm Dr. David Reath and I'm here to talk about this week's Truth-O-Meter Tuesday question.
Well we turned to the topic of laser hair removal as it is a very popular office procedure we do.
for both men and women and in different areas of the body.
What we said was that Laser Hair Removal is equally effetive on all types of hair and the answer to this is
false. The way that laser hair removal works is that the pigment in the hair
The pigment in the hair is what is targeted by the laser and that is what causes the hair follicles to die when the energy from the laser is absorbed
by the darker or pigmented hair. So if you have very light hair,
there is not what we refer to as a "target" for the laser.
And this is why laser hair removal works best on darker, coarser, hair.
It's interesting that one of our responders said that they knew the answer was false because they had a number of treatments
and they were not effective. I think that we try to let people know what to expect
If you have very fine, light hair don't bother with this procedure.
It's not going to be the right treatment for you. So darker, coarser hair is the way to go with laser hair removal.
The answer was false. Almost everybody got this one right this week so let's find out who this week's winner is.
Lael Dresser. Lael, congratulations. You're this week's winner. We have a $100 giftcard for you.
So come into the office and pick that up and for everyone else, thanks for playing.
