Welcome to Altos Escondidos, Panama's only luxury eco-resort community situated on the
continental divide with breathtaking vistas of both the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans. This
green community is comprised of 75 lots on 69 hectares, boasting an organic wine bar
built into the side of the mountain, and much more!
Altos Escondidos occupies a highland clearing at 2,700 feet above sea level surrounded by
tropical rainforest between the Altos del Maria mountain range and the Bay of Chame.
It straddles the Continental Divide with refreshing breezes, pure mountain air and water, and
lush rainforest. The trees are home to orchids, bromeliads, vines and other plants, as well
as birds and wildlife.
Distinguished by the striking profile of Chichibali peak, Altos Escondidos is an incredibly beautiful
69 hectare mountain retreat that is kissed by the clouds and cooled by the mountain streams
and breezes, with a residential sector of 75 “eco-luxury” residences, each buffered
by about one hector of green space from each other .
The planned "green" homes are designed to minimize both the owner’s environmental
"footprint" and their energy expenses by using the earth's natural resources; including wind,
water, trees & other forestation, and the sun. It is a community that embraces luxury,
comfort, and the technologies that support our modern life while living in harmony with
the natural world.
Altos Escondidos will be equipped with hi-speed wi-fi, wind and solar power generation, and
fresh mountain water from its own aquifers.
The homes will be equipped with solar photovoltaic shingles and small vertical axis wind turbines
to supplement each home’s energy consumption.
The development will also host a Holistic spa for the body, mind, and soul, Organic
wine bar, Fresh fruit, vegetable, and juice bar, a Boutique resort hotel with 16 eco-luxury
accommodations, a fine dining restaurant, infinity pool, nature trails, canopy zip lines,
and more!
The Altos Escondidos homes and masterplan are designed by one of the world’s leading
architects in environmentally sensitive and sustainable design, Dr. Raj Barr-Kumar based
in Washington, D.C.
A former National President of the American Institute of Architects, Dr. Barr earned a
Doctor of Architecture in Sustainable Design and is the author of the critically acclaimed
books on the subject, “Green Architecture – Strategies for Sustainable Development”,
and “Sustainable Design Strategies”.
Altos Escondidos is designed to meet or exceed the internationally recognized Leadership
in Energy and Environmental Design, or LEED. These standards ensure the use of local materials,
cutting-edge technologies, and ongoing sustainable solutions.
This makes Altos Escondidos the first, fully green development in Panama, increasing its
investment value through sales promotion and media coverage that highlight this unique
selling proposition.
Outside collaborators include Ancon - the National Association for the Conservation
of Nature in Panama, the State of Missouri Higher Education Council, as well as a team
of expert consultants whose specialties range from the documenting plant species to holistic
spa development.
The social sustainability of the local population is also an important aspect of the overall
Altos Escondidos plan.
The establishment of the Chichibali nonprofit foundation and a community learning center
with a 7-hectare organic farm will help to support the local community.
These entities will provide education, subsidized green energy, training for “green-collar”
employment at Altos Escondidos, as well as other economic development opportunities to
increase local prosperity, health, and overall well-being.
The foundation also plans to provide an internship platform for University students concentrating
in sustainable agriculture and architecture, biology, forestry, and other related fields.
Altos Escondidos is located near the quaint mountain town of Sora and is only a 90 minutes
drive from the cosmopolitan amenities available in Panama City including the Johns Hopkins
Hospital, multiple malls and restaurants, and an ever expanding city skyline.
It is also only a 30 minutes drive to Panama’s beautiful Pacific Coast Beaches including
the Coronado beach community with high end resorts and amenities.
