Each year during the warmer months I speak to many patients about skin concerns that
are specific to this time of year. Dry skin is a common problem experienced by
people with all skin types in the warmer months, including people with acne-prone skin.
When coming out of the winter, skin is often dry and moisture deprived due to wind, cold
air and indoor heating. A thorough moisturising regime is needed,
however many people with acne-prone skin are hesitant to use a moisturiser regularly for
fear that it will contribute to breakouts. Using products such as Papulex Moussant Soap-Free
Cleansing Gel and Papulex Oil-Free Cream, which contain moisturising
agents to hydrate and soothe, will leave the skin feeling smooth and refreshed, while continuing
to treat blemishes. Skin damage from excessive exposure to the
sun is another problem at this time of year. As well as sunburn, exposure to the sun also
leads to redness and long-term skin issues such as premature ageing, including age spots
and wrinkles. For this reason, sun protection is imperative
and should be applied daily or even more frequently. For prolonged periods in the sun, sunscreen
should be used throughout the day, and re-applied after swimming or sweating.
Every day, ensure you use make-up and creams with SPF to help protect skin from the sun’s
harmful rays not only on your face, but equally on your body.
