Hi, my name's Rod Swift.
I'm the Greens candidate for the seat of Gellibrand in the 2013 federal election.
And I'd like to talk to you today about an issue that's close to my heart.
My dad went through a 19-month battle with the debilitating illness: motor neurone disease.
A disease that traps a fully-functioning mind in a body that just simply doesn't want to work.
It's a harrowing disease.
And my dad was a very strong supporter of voluntary euthanasia — and I am too.
More than three-quarters of Australians also support having the right...
... to end their life in a way that preserves their dignity — when it comes time.
And I think our politicians should be strongly revisiting this issue...
... and I certainly, if elected, would do so.
That's why I'm proud to stand up for this particular issue — and that's why we're with you.
