hi there this is Dave Allen for Mac 20 questions have a quick look at how we get movies
into iTunes
well the first thing to do is to drag-and-drop
into iTunes that's one way of doing it
let's take this one here
and just drag and drop over here
so we saw there that it was copying the movie into
iTunes
how easy is that then
we'll go and have a look in iTunes now and seat has been copied in there
and you'll soon be able to go and play it
and it's quick and easy
now then what about if your video that you want to bring in is not
a .MOV file
you need to have the file set up right so that you can bring it into iTunes and be able to play it
so let's have a look at an AVI file
here is a file, a .AVI file
what on earth are we going to do to get that into iTunes
if we take it across and drag-and-drop it over there
as you can see it's not getting the box around here as it was getting before
obviously a file that is not going to be accepted
we are going to have to do something with it
so
we have a number of options
one will 2 to use an application called handbrake
or we could use Miro video converter
all we could use MPEG stream clip
handbrake is probably the best known of these
and it is pretty easy to use
what we can do is to click on source
and go to
our folder
and get
our file
and open it up so we have got some information about the
actual size of the file and so on it gives us a preview as well
what we want to
is to go to some presets maybe, that's the best way to do it
and the best possibilities if you want an iPod file
click on there
or if you want to what he could do is go to something like a universal
setting
that will play on most things
but let's take it as if it is going to go on an iPad
we have clicked on that and we don't need to do anything else
all we need to do is to click on start and the file is sent into movies
folder so let's go to our movies folder
there is our sample m4v now
let's go back to iTunes
and now we can take our sample m4v
and drag and drop it over there
and that should have been copied in there let's have a look see if it got copied in
sample there we go
music playing
now we have a movie in there and we can watch it
how about that, that's pretty good isn't it
wanted to use MPEG stream clip instead drag this into
mpeg stream clip
application
let's go to our desktop again
into
where our sample.AVI is and drag it and drop it in there
this time what we have to do is just go to QuickTime
H.264
take the quality right up
turn on multipass if we want is even better quality
and if you wanted to keep the file size within a specific size you can change the
data rate
we will not do that for the moment and we don't need interlaced scaling
coming from and where that has been
having interlaced scaling in there
we can
change how the sound is in there if we want to
sometimes I have put it into a MPEG AAC
it doesn't need to be as far as 256 probably the easiest thing to do is to leave it
as it was
and we can tell it to make a movie
we have the choice of where it's going to go to
and we will have its going back to the
same folder
into the convert folder
tell it to save
its taking a long time to get through one file and it is taking a lot of time
it is easier to use handbrake
hurray it is completed
close that down for now here is our sample.MOV file
just change the time of it so it's
sample two
will do what I did before and drag-and-drop it over into
iTunes
go into iTunes here is our sample that we just brought in there
and we can tell it to play movie
and they are still smooching that worked how else could we do it
well we could use an application called Miro converter
to do that all we have to do is to take our original file again
drag and drop it over into this thing pick a device or video format
and we are going to say that is going to go to the iPod
touch
and this time were going to have this checked into iTunes
tell it to convert
job done that was the fastest of the lot
and this one is called Sample.iPod
it seems to have worked just as well as the previous ones
but it was a whole lot quicker
so now what we want to do is is how we get those
videos that we have converted
onto our iPod lets go into the iPod
and we're going into movies
tell it to sync movies and you can tell it to automatically include all movies
if you want to do that
so what you want to do is to choose the ones that you rashly just put in there
that was one of the ones that I brought in
let's click on that one
called sample
so we've got this one
this one
and this one
and as you can see it is syncing those
over to the
iPod it is copying just one of one
by the look of it what happened there was the one that we
specifically said
we wanted to convert for the iPod
are the only ones that went through the other ones didn't have the right
format. so that is something that you will need to watch out for when you're converting videos to put into iTunes
and if you want to move them on further into one of your iOS devices
such as the iPod touch
and don't forget to tap on the subscribe button to subscribe to this channel
next week you can
and also why not give the
give the like person a bit of a bash to now that you know how to add movies to iTunes
