Voir dire, or jury selection, is a very important stage
of the trial.
Because ultimately, you are deciding
upon the people that are going to decide your guilt
or innocence.
And there's no scientific formula for selecting a jury.
The selection process will change depending
upon the nature of the charges, depending
on so many different non-scientific dynamics.
But ultimately, when you are questioning
a prospective juror, you have a sense--
does this person seem like they can be fair?
And sometimes you get a very good feeling
from an individual.
Sometimes you can't explain why it
is that you don't feel comfortable
with that individual.
When we're selecting a jury for a client,
we want our client to participate
in the jury selection process.
Although your attorney will ultimately make the decision
as to what jurors to keep and which ones to strike,
your input can be very helpful.
And so, if there's a particular juror that you just
get a bad feeling about, that you
don't feel comfortable with, we will
ask you to share that information with us.
Because ultimately, when a jury is sworn in
to decide upon your fate, we want
to make sure, to the extent possible,
that you feel comfortable with the individuals that
are selected to serve on your jury.
