It's time to play a round of Quiz MD. Today, I'll be asking a couple of questions about
Arthritis. Arthritis is inflammation of one or more joints, causing pain and stiffness
that can worsen with age. There are certain foods you can eat to help reduce the inflammation
of arthritis. Question #1. Which of the following foods help to reduce inflammation caused by
arthritis? A. Broccoli, B. Cherries, or C. Dark Chocolate?
The answers are A and B. Research has shown that anthocyanins, found in cherries, have
an anti-inflammatory effect. And broccoli contains a compound called sulforaphane, which
researchers have found could help prevent or slow the progression of osteoarthritis.
Since arthritis causes joint pain, you may think that limiting mobility or exercise might
help, but actually studies show that regular exercise can help prevent or reduce joint
pain. So, Question #2, What types of exercises are best for arthritis?
A. Running, B. Water aerobics, or C. Gentle stretching
The answer is both B and C. You might want to speak with your doctor before going for
a run. Starting off with regular stretches, and gentle exercises that will increase your
range of motion is always a good place to start. If you are living with arthritis, speak
to your doctor about other ways to increase your range of motion, reduce pain and stay
healthy. Until next time, I'm Gabe Garza.
