The School of Management and Law focuses on the issues of business ethics and sustainability
because these are fundamental topics that concern all sectors of society,
and because we want to raise our students’ awareness of the problems involved.
My wife and I have set up a foundation to promote ethics in the globalized world.
We get involved in projects concerning regions where people earn less than two dollars a day
and we try to offer poor people new perspectives.
For me, the right framework is the one set out at the first Rio Conference which took place 20 years ago.
Any growth must be based on three pillars:
economic, social, and ecological.
All three are equally important, and all three must be taken into consideration for sustainable growth to have a chance.
Economiesuisse considers the sustainability of the economy to be an important goal,
so our main focus is on supporting education and research as well as the application of new technologies.
Another main concern, of course, is the ability of businesses to compete in a global market,
and this is where sound environmental practice has the key role to play.
As a Korean it makes me very happy
that we are able to show during this International Week
how much Korea has achieved in terms of sustainability.
