>> Patty:
Hi, everybody! I’m Patty the Parking Pal. I work for Parking and Transportation Services,
and I’m here with Cory the Commuter.
>> Cory:
I’m Cory the Commuter and I’m a freshman here on campus this year, and I need to find
somewhere to park!
>> Patty:
That’s what I’m here for! We have many options for commuters on campus. First, we
need our “Everything You Need to Know About Parking on Campus” Guide.
Right now, we’re in front of the library. We’re going to start by going to the closest
deck: West Deck. Let’s go.
[Music]
>> Patty:
This is West Deck. This is one of the commuter decks on campus. But, this deck fills up really
fast. So, unless you have like an 8 o’clock class, it’s not suggested that you park
here. Average wait time for a parking spot here is 45 minutes.
>> Cory:
Wow, that is a long time. I’d like to hear more of my other parking options, for sure.
>> Patty:
Great, I’ll show them to you now.
>> Cory:
Great.
>> Patty:
Oh, no! It’s Trevor the Trickster.
>> Cory:
Oh no, Trevor the Trickster?!
>> Patty:
He is always trying to get out of parking citations and park illegally on campus.
Trevor: Eh, close enough.
Trevor, no tricking.
>> Patty:
>> Trevor:
This is line-straddling.
You’re taking two spaces.
That’s a $30 citation.
Take this to Parking and Transportation Services.
>> Trevor:
Oh, man.
>> Patty:
Have a great day.
[Music]
>> Patty:
These are our East Decks.
This is another place for commuters to park.
Once again though, it’ll take almost 35 minutes to find a spot during peak times,
so you want to be careful when you try to park in here.
>> Cory:
Well, you’ve only told me the bad places to park.
Where can I park where I won’t have such a long wait time?
>> Patty:
Let’s go check it out now!
>> Cory:
Okay.
[Music]
>> Patty:
This is Lot 6.
It’s a huge lot commuters can park in.
It’s about a ten minute walk from the center of campus.
There’s a shuttle that runs from here to campus, and you can almost always find a spot
in here.
>> Cory:
So, if my classes start at peak times, I should park in Lot 6?
>> Patty:
Absolutely.
>> Cory:
Okay!
>> Patty:
This is North Deck.
This is where commuters and residents can park on campus.
A lot of the residents living in the high rises will be parking here.
It’s a very safe and well-lit deck, and now let’s go to Union Deck.
>> Patty:
Oh no, Trevor’s back again!
>> Trevor:
(Laughs)
They’ll never know!
>> Patty:
Trevor, no tricking.
That’s a Registration Violation.
You cannot use someone else’s permit on your car.
Go pay Parking Services.
>> Trevor:
Oh, man.
[Music]
>> Patty:
This is Union Deck, right up against our Student Union.
It’s one of the most popular decks on campus.
If you’re not going to a class around 8:00 AM, it’s probably not a good idea to try
to find a spot in here.
The average time to find a spot is about 35 minutes.
Patty:
If you have classes in the CRI part of campus, this is where you’ll park.
There’s a new deck going up back here, and it should be done around mid-September. But
until then, parking may be a little tight out here.
For now, we recommend you park in Lot 6 and take the free shuttle service to your class.
Shuttle services run all day and come about every 15 minutes, so you shouldn’t have
a problem getting one.
>> Trevor:
Ah, another one?
>> Patty:
Trevor, no tricking!
>> Trevor:
What?! Ugh.
>> Patty:
You cannot put your envelope on another car.
>> Trevor:
Fine! Oh, man.
>> Patty:
So now I’ve shown you everything you need to know about being a commuter and parking
on campus.
There’s just a few more tips I need to tell you about.
To purchase your permit, you need a 49er card, vehicle registration, driver’s license,
and proof of insurance.
Remember, parking enforcement begins on the first day of class.
So be sure to buy your permit early, online.
When issued a citation, pay within ten days, and you only have to pay half price.
>> Cory:
Thanks, Patty, for all of your help.
I look forward to starting school in the fall.
>> Patty & Cory:
Bye!
