Article 3. Low-Altitude Corridor Mapping: Part 1 of 3: Are you taking Advantage of it?
Low altitude Corridor mapping has emerged in the last couple of years to great profitability,
especially for those who entered early. The most common type of corridor mapping has been
to map utilities, involving power lines, transformers, towers, other assets, as well as the environments
around them such as vegetation encroachment, the width of the corridor, the properties
corridors go through, ecetera...
This has been a great place to be for aerial mapping. Why? Well, in our energy hungry world,
it's in our best interest that our energy distribution systems grow to meet demand and
are well maintained. You need energy to do what you want with your family, your friends,
your work, your goals. You don't want a blackout.
This means that for your mapping organization, the same areas need to be mapped and remapped
often. That's because vegetation grows, and you can determine the areas where it could
cause supply problems. You can perform asset management for the utility companies, and
provide them with the statuses and maintenance of their assets to prevent future problems.
You can supply the information they need so that they can plan for land development and
population growth.
So why is aerial mapping more productive for the utility company? Because they don't have
to send (as frequently) workers to walk along a power line for manual, error-prone, visual
inspections, climb up every single tower, or fly a helicopter dangerously low. Instead,
a helicopter or plane with sensors, flying above the lines, can cover more area than
a team of field workers. You can do it quicker, safer, more accurately with proper georeferencing,
with much more automation, which means less human errors.
For you, it means your mapping company has ongoing, multi-term, predictable revenue,
allowing you to make better, long term business decisions to invest in yourself.
So let me ask you, Are you taking advantage of low altitude corridor mapping? There are
many ways to get involved in the market verticals. Are you taking advantage of the verticals?
The next video will be on the three categories or levels of service that mapping companies
are providing, involving different verticals.
