Now that you have set up your presence in most social networking sites,
You need to start sharing. What to share?
Start with your expertise. Do you have an expertise? What do you know?
What do you know really well? It doesn’t have to be your work. It can be a passion.
If you’re like me, someone who likes running, you could share about running.
Also, there is a lot of content online. There are millions of web pages.
And, a lot of people who know a lot about a lot of things.
Try to be the best in the world at it.
Like Seth Godin, in a book called Tribes. Basically says, that whatever you pick, try to be the best in the world at it.
For example, a friend of mine who is one of the best chefs in the world, Guy Savoy.
Guy’s expertise is obvious. It’s cooking, among other things. Cooking at it’s best.
You don’t have to be Guy Savoy to have so much expertise to succeed.
Of course, you know he could only share about when the restaurant opens or closes.
He could only share about something special happening.
What I think he should do is really share among a team for example.
You used to need someone to help you with your website.
You used to need to think a lot about writing a blog post.
Now you can just share a picture, for example. Share regularly, small things.
Rather than trying to think too much.
Even if it’s not perfect. Even if the quality is not good.
I know that in that specific example of a super high quality chef and very big brand,
you want to be careful always about quality. But,
You know what? Social networking is about creating a link with your friends,
with your fans, with your community.
That link is best if there is trust and trust is created by being like you really are.
It’s like if I tried to fix my French accent. Forget it.
For example, there could be a huge fish coming because he has a big table.
A picture of that. It’s fun. Done.
It could be also collaborative. It could be the entire team of the restaurant who maybe, let’s say they have 10 people.
Among those 10 people, some might be interested in sharing as well. Or, show the team.
It’s easier than being alone sharing. You could have a team.
For example, if I keep on this Guy Savoy example
You could have “The Fromager”, as we call him. The guy who prepares all of those amazing cheeses you can find there.
He could share about how he picks the cheese. What are the seasons for cheese.
This is content that goes around the restaurant.
If you take a trip somewhere and you want to share something interesting.
For instance, I know Guy has cooked in China. He could tell about that.
It’s all about telling stories. Again, what’s cool, what’s interesting, what you tell your friends.
And not about “how can I sell this thing”.
It has to be you. And, very often is very important.
