If you decide to build your own home, you should protect your investment by hiring a
professional home inspector. I’m Ilyce Glink with today’s Real Estate
Minute. Although it’s NOT common to hire an inspector
for new construction, it’s a good idea to have someone check in on the four crucial
stages of building. The first time should be after the foundation
is poured. Then the inspector should go back after the framing is up. Another visit should
be made once the house is wired for electricity and the plumbing is completed. A final stop
should happen just before the walls are closed in.
Having your inspector keep an eye on your builder during the process can save you time,
money and aggravation. The inspector can point out mistakes or shoddy workmanship while the
errors can be fixed less expensively and on the builder’s dime, not yours.
