Transcript for the Delicious, Part I As a social media community manager, that’s
you, you might want to stay up to date on the current trends or have access to blog
postings or articles that can help you better use social media. Most of you have little
time to surf the web for helpful articles, but have no fear, that’s my job – I’m
here to help. I’ve set up a Delicious account to crowd-source
helpful Weblinks. Good news, you don’t have to register to view the links. If you are
interested in registering and learning how to network your links, we’ll save that for
another day. Let’s get started…
So what is Delicious? Delicious is a social bookmarking web service for storing, sharing,
and discovering web bookmarks. All bookmarks posted to Delicious are publicly viewable
by default, although registered users can mark specific bookmarks as private. The public
or social aspect of this service is emphasized; the site is not focused on storing private
bookmarks. The focus is sharing Web knowledge among a community.
You’ll want to log on to the following website to get started http://delicious.com/katiekayaks/FresnoStateSocialMedia
The first thing you will want to do is bookmark this page using whatever bookmarking service
you currently use. Ok. On the top of the Web page you’ll see
that we’re at Katie Johnson's FresnoStateSocialMedia Bookmarks. Here you’ll find all the Web
links I’ve bookmarked with the tag FresnoStateSocialMedia. All one word. FresnoStateSocialMedia will
be the tag we’ll give all weblinks to be shared among the group. Properly tagging bookmarked
links assures that the community of interested users will be able to find the link - think
of it as a communal filing system. The links added to this page are organized
by date by default. For each bookmark listing you’ll see the title of Webpage and underneath
is a short summary of the Webpage or article I’ve bookmarked. You’ll also see the other
tags I’ve given the article. The number in the blue box next to the bookmark will
tell you how many Delicious users in the world have book-mark this page. If you click on
the box you will be able to see the other people who have bookmarked this page. Kinda
cool! Now we’re getting social! To the right you’ll find a list of Related
Tags. Each of these bookmarks are tagged FresnoStateSocialMedia as well as the tag listed. This means you
can search for other articles tagged both FresnoStateSocialMedia and, for example twitter.
Under related tags, click on Twitter and you will find all the twitter articles also tagged
with FresnoStateSocialMedia. These related tags will become really important as our list
of shared bookmarks grows. It will be a way you can easily filter and find articles that
matter to you. If you click on the Top Ten Tags dropdown,
you will be able to access through tags all of my bookmarks. Go ahead and click around…it’s
all public. That’s the beauty of social media, it’s the knowledge shared between
communities that share common interests.
Let me know if you’re interested in registering for Delicious and contributing to our list
of bookmarks. I hope you find this info helpful and, as always, please let me know if you
have any questions or suggestions regarding social media at Fresno State.
