>> The ASHFoundation New Investigator Research Grant that I received
has helped my career in a couple of different ways.
First, it helped me to move my research
into a slightly different area, a slightly different population;
and it's also allowed me to collect pilot data
so that I can support other applications for funding,
including funding from the National Institute of Health.
The ASHFoundation New Investigator Research Grant
that I received helped to extend my current work
in speech development in typically developing children
into toddlers with cerebral palsy.
The work that I do uses optical motion captuer to put little
reflective stickers on children's faces
so that we can record speech and chewing movements in real time.
And so we're hoping that this information will allow us to
identify movement characteristics that
distinguish children with cerebral palsy who are at risk of developing later
speech language disorders at an earlier age.
And this would be really important because we'll be able to
provide more appropriate intervention
at an earlier time point to hopefully help
with this - with their speech and language development.
