Shiatsu is done on the floor, on a futon, and the reason for this is that it's so important
that the practitioner's body is involved while giving a session. So not just the hands, but
actually the whole weight of the body. So it's really important that the practitioner
is comfortable on the floor, moving around with knees bent in a seated or a kneeling
position, and pouring the body weight into the receiver. It's how we create pressure.
So I'm also moving, in shiatsu, from my center. And this is such an important aspect of the
practitioner's body movement in a session. So I'm thinking of moving from my center and
that my body movement is creating the movement in the recipient during the session. And that's
very different than just working externally with the limbs or with the hands.
So the practitioner of shiatsu's body movement is really at the heart of the work. The practitioner
can get into a calm, meditative space, while giving a session, helping to encourage the
receiver to release, relax, and come into the greatest sense of balance.
