The only solution for mobility are
the public transport systems.
Subways, buses, BRT, trains.
But it is important to make clear, first, that
public transport solves mobility,
doesn’t solve traffic, traffic jams.
Traffic jams are only solved by restricting the use of the car.
How to distribute this valuable resource which is the space of the streets
among pedestrians, bicycles, public transport and cars?
I believe that a good city has to give more space to pedestrians,
to the bicycles, to public transport and less to cars.
Subway is one of the many kinds of public transport.
If we want to give priority
to the public transport users, we should try not to bury them,
let’s bury the cars, but not the users of public transport.
if we are a democratic society, we have to give the buses
exclusive lanes, with BRT systems.
If necessary,
we must remove the cars from the lanes, in some extreme situation.
If after all this there is still need for more space,
then we make the subway.
Any decision to be taken must be
based in an objective study of alternatives.
