Hello, and welcome to Dinner Tonight. I'm Tanya Davis. And today we're here at the Water Sense
Labeled Home at the Texas A&M AgrLife Research and Extension Center
in Dallas. Today I'll be showing you how to prepare a great
pork chop recipe. It's called Herb-Crusted Pork Chops.
You can see that I've already gotten started by placing in this
shallow dish a quarter cup of crushed corn flakes.
And we want to add just a little bit more flavor to our breading mixture.
So, here I have a mixture of garlic powder,
pepper, parmesan cheese, and
dried rosemary. Now, hopefully, you might be one that's
growing a backyard herb garden just like they are
here at the Water Sense Home. They use
a drip irrigation system that saves many more
gallons of water than just a traditional watering system.
Now, we're going to go ahead and add the
herb mixture to the corn flakes.
Mix that around, and it
is ready. Now, let's
focus on our pork chop just a minute. You know, sometimes pork gets a bad
rap. It's thought to be a higher-fat protein.
But, as a matter of fact, if you make wise decisions in your
grocery, you can choose a lean pork chop like I've got today.
It's a lean. . .It's a pork loin and so that
indicates that it is lean. I've also already prepared
the pork chop by putting the binding agent on it that's going to
bind it to the breading. Today it is a dijon
mustard. I use about a tablespoon and a half
dijon mustard for all six pork chops. So, you're just going to lightly
brush it on.
We put it on both sides of the pork chop.
And then just lightly put it in there.
Just want a light coating of breading.
And you're ready
to place it on the indoor grill.
It's going to take about 6 minutes on each side
for the pork chop to get to the proper doneness.
Internal cooking temperature anywhere from 145,
which is food safe, up to probably about 170
would be appropriate for
your family's taste. So, we'll go ahead and let this cook
for 6 minutes on each side.
Alright, I think our pork chop's about done. We'll go ahead and serve it up
with some steamed green beans and a baked
sweet potato. The pork chop itself is about 210 calories
per serving of lean protein. So, the next time you're
wondering what's for dinner, I hope you'll remember that Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service
has resources and information that can help you answer that
question.
