Vermicelli is a compulsory treat on ‘Meethi’ Eid.
Before or after Eid prayers, vermicelli is served
and had with great delight.
What process vermicelli goes through to reach
us is something very few people know.
The preparation of vermicelli is an interesting process.
First of all, dough is kneaded and prepared.
The prepared dough is then put in a machine
which sports a net in front, passing through which
the dough takes the shape of vermicelli.
MUHAMMAD MUNIR (WORKER): The vermicelli passes through
the machine slowly and fall down
until they become two-hands long.
After this, they are placed on sticks
and cut from below to make them equal.
Hanging from sticks, these are not strands of thread but vermicelli
which have been hung on these sticks to dry.
After coming out of the machines,
vermicelli strands are hung on sticks till they are dry.
After drying, vermicelli is put in metal boxes
and baked in an oven for 12 hours.
After coming out of the oven, the vermicelli is packed
and supplied throughout the country.
MUHAMMAD RAEES (FACTORY OWNER): During Eid days,
there is a high demand for vermicelli.
We have to work very hard to prepare them.
Vermicelli has very high demand in Punjab during Eid.
Although vermicelli preparation is ongoing
even in the normal days, during this season,
the factory requires people to work in shifts to complete orders.
Without vermicelli, Meethi Eid is pretty tasteless.
That is why on Eid,
everyone wants to prep their tables with vermicelli.
