the budget issue is front and center at the house voted
to support it it'll be coming to the senate I believe
next week %uh and I happened yet to be honest with you decided how I'm gonna
vote on this thing
a clearly I think the lawn the noise
a that this budget is an extremely modest effort it does not in any way
shape or form address the major crises facing our country
are there is no money going in there for a job creation or rebuilding our
infrastructure are moving aggressively to an energy efficiency
all we have not in this budget
are ask the wealthiest people largest corporations in this country to stop
paying
up their fair share of taxes a
at a time when we spend on defense almost as much as the rest of the world
combined
all we have not made the kind of cuts in defense spending but I think
would be appropriate on the other hand and then let me
be very clear about this but I am very proud of
is that all I and many other people working for a number of years against
above very very powerful special interests
all who have wanted to cut social security they wanted to cut medicare
they want to cut medicaid
there are no cuts in this budget and Social Security Medicare Medicaid
are and that is not insignificant we have continued
up the fight of abuse attempts and that's a good thing 10 the
areas that is perhaps most disappointing is that
um we have we continue to have in this country
not only very high unemployment unemployment does
I point out every week is not really 7 percent it's it's much higher that if
you include those people who have given up looking for work
and those people working part-time so but thirteen-percent youth unemployment
close to twenty are percent long-term
unemployment in this country is a very very serious
problems record-breaking level and worse
I'll the budget does not include a provision to extend long-term
unemployment and that means that at the end to this yep about 1.3 million
people will I'll lose their long-term unemployment
and benefits and and that is not only very bad for families
who have was suffering with long-term unemployment %uh but it's bad for the
economy because
that is money that these folks will not be spending you will result in the loss
of about 200,000 jobs so it's a
its its its it up mean-spirited a bad idea not
to extend these benefits now the problem let patty Murray is out and party is the
a chair of the Senate Budget Committee is she's negotiating with folks
who wanna as I mentioned earlier cut Social Security cut medicare cut
medicaid cut education
archive nutrition programs give more tax breaks for billionaires
a and maintain loopholes for large multinational corporations who in some
cases
pay nothing in federal income taxes so she was at a very very difficult
position
but I've gotta you know over the weekend be thinking about what the best boat
is or not
