My name is Katy Peters, I am the clinical director of Destination Health a travel clinic in London
I'm going to be speaking to you about Yellow Fever vaccination
Yellow Fever is a virus passed on to humans
by the Anopheles mosquito. This mosquito is a
daytime biter.
Yellow Fever is present in a vast majority of countries in sub-sahara Africa
and also in South America
to include Brazil, Peru, Colombia, Ecuador, for example.
Yellow Fever can be vaccinated against.
It is a very good idea to be vaccinated for
this disease because the disease in itself although rare is very very dangerous.
We can provide you with Yellow Fever Vaccination
Its a single dose vaccine
that lasts for ten years.
You will receive a vaccination certificate like this
which you can take through borders
there are some countries that require this certificate
and you will not be able to get into the country without it. For example, if you are coming from a
country of Yellow Fever risk, lets say Angola
and you are flying to South Africa or most of South-East Asia
without the certificate you will not be given entry.
Currently there is
a national shortage of Yellow Fever vaccine. We have been provided with
multiple dose viles. In order to
get an appointment for Yellow Fever please go on our website www.travelvaccinationclinic.co.uk
and book in, email us or contact us
we will then liaise with you to fit
you in to one of our Yellow Fever clinics.
You will receive a single dose from our ten dose vile
It's a subcutaneous injection, its relatively
pain free and it will last you for ten years. It is a live vaccine
so you may experience some flu like symptoms
but the majority of people do not. There are certain
groups of people where this vaccination is contraindicated
we will discus this with you at your appointment. Thank you very much.
