Every year 1.3 billion tonnes of food is lost
or wasted
In the UK alone 6.7 million tonnes of food
is wasted
Thats 32% of all food produced
Well, its stops things being thrown into waste disposal
And it helps people maintain their lifestyle without having to buy new things
I think it's a very good scheme generally for the community, not just for the environment
It's one step beyond a jumble sale if you like, the attraction is people don't have
to pay for things that they want, but theres an incentive to bring things they dont want
and get rid of them, so yeah, everybody wins How do you think the day went?
I think it's been a huge success We've tried a different venue this time it
hasn't put people off We've had lots of stuff being swapped and
I think that's very beneficial for the community Well I was concerned that with the change
of venue people wouldn't manage to find the location
But I think having the parking really helped and it didn't seem to put off all our regulars
and we'd like to say thanks who bothered to turn up
We're just giving away apple juice It's publicising the fact that such produce
can be produced locally We're crushing apples over there on an apple
crusher it pulps the apples and then we take the pulp,
put it in the press, squeeze it and produce apple juice.
Well the stall is basically fruit and veg that's come from
the people of the village to share with everybody else
it's so that we don't waste all this lovely fruit that free and
going on round at the moment. Every little bit helps, this is people focusing
local tomake sure that things don't go unused and
keeping food local. I've been so busy I havent really notcied
what's been going on but I think what's been quite nice is it's
a fairly sort of constant stream so I think probably had quite a few people.
And of course outside there's the apple giveaway as well
so there's probably more people who are just coming to
collect apples that other people have donated.
