LYKKE: Gabriel, you said it was my turn to choose what we watch. (background mumbling throughout)
GABRIEL: Yes Lykke but I hope you pick something good (horns at intervals)
something worth watching. MUSIC (acoustic guitar)
LYKKE: But this battle's gunna be awesome
look theres some Scottish soldiers down there
and theres some Irish down there.
GABRIEL: Not another mindless bloodbath
Its a civil war, theres never any stories to these things
they're always pointless.
LYKKE: Nu-uh this ones full of drama and romance
the Protestant King of England has married the Catholic French Princess.
It caused a conflict with Scotland
and the King's got the Irish to fight for him because they hate the Scots too
and this is just the first one
I hear theres a whole series of battles to come in the civil war.
GABRIEL: Exactly.
Mediocre drama and mindless violence.
I mean whats it all for?
They're showing a re-run of Genesis over there.
All seven days of God's creation in one
its gunna be beautiful Lykke.
LYKKE: But I wanna see people get cut in half, not being created
I don't think I can sit through it again.
GABRIEL: Thats not a very angelic thing to say.
Frain just got over the whole L-U-C-I-F-E-R and that whole business.
You should be on your best benevolent behaviour.
LYKKE: I know Gabriel, I know.
We're not gunna get involved, I just want to watch.
GABRIEL: Why would you want to watch such a thing.
LYKKE: I don't know, call it curiosity.
(marching)
GABRIEL: Look, just wait 300 years
and there'll be a war worth watching, worth fighting
and not for the violence, one that will actually mean something
to the whole world.
One that isn't just about petty squabbles.
LYKKE: I know its pointless, there all pointless.
Don't you remember the crusades
you queued there hours to watch that and what did it change.
You want some justification, I just wanna see what happens.
GABRIEL: Well I don't.
I know we have to accept what people do (explosions, gunfire & fighting)
they gave them freewill for a reason
but that doesn't mean we can spectate for revelry.
We certainly shouldn't be happy about it.
LYKKE: Are you saying we should just ignore it?
GABRIEL: Of course not we shouldn't ignore and we shouldn't forget it.
I suppose I'm saying that wars are fought for all sorts of reasons.
Some, like this one
are fought for no good reason
that doesn't mean there not a tragedy.
LYKKE: I'll agree with you there
This ones just being fought for no good reason
Catholics and Protestants; its all the same up here.
D'oh its all over now, it didn't even last that long. MUSIC (brass section)
GABRIEL: Don't worry there'll be a sequel soon, there always is.
LYKKE: So what shall we do now?
GABRIEL: Come on we can still catch most of Genesis
there only on the second day, the separation of the waters.
LYKKE: Ok, so long as I get to choose next time.
