We all know how important English is for our students.
And our job as teachers is to motivate them.
The Big Challenge really helps me do that.
Until last year,
I hesitated about taking part
because I thought some of my students wouldn't have the level to succeed.
But I decided to give it a try.
When I first mentioned it in class,
some were hesitant because of the cost.
But when I explained that it was a unique opportunity to participate
in a national event,
compete with other students AND win some prizes,
they were ready to sign up.
I soon noticed that they love the website.
They discovered the online quiz
and began doing quizzes every day on their own
to them it's a game!
And English grammar somehow gets fun!
They think they are playing,
but I know they are working and I like that !
The day of the contest,
my students were very excited and a bit stressed.
Of course, not everyone got top results,
but they were happy that they had participated.
I noticed that many of them had really progressed.
They were all very proud of their Big Challenge diploma and their prizes.
And of course, I was very proud of them too!
I've been organising The Big Challenge in my school for years now
and it's become an important annual event
I particularly appreciate
the fact that I don't have that much to do once I've registered my pupils.
The Big Challenge takes care of everything.
They're very organized.
Once the contest is over,
I just send the answer sheets back
and wait for the results and prizes.
I also appreciate the quality of the questions
which really cover the curriculum quite well
... even though some of my pupils
find the last few questions a bit difficult.
I also recently discovered the Club
and am quite impressed with it.
It's a tremendous opportunity for pupils to actually practise English.
It's a connection to the real world.
And that's what English teaching is all about:
preparing our young people for the real world.
