Hello and welcome to this Tips and Tricks video for ZoomText 10.
In today’s video we’re going to show how to use the Freeze Window.
The Freeze Window allows you to pick an area on screen that you always want to see, even
if the on screen information is outside of your magnified view. A good example of this
would be the clock – it’s always handy to be able to look in the bottom right hand
corner of the screen and see what time it is. When you have ZoomText running magnified,
chances are your view will not be in that area – with the freeze window, you can keep
track of the time without having to scroll down to the system tray each time.
To set up a freeze window, click on the “Type” button on the ZoomText toolbar, and click
“Freeze” then “New.” Now you’ll have a thermometer icon attached to your mouse
pointer, letting you know that you’re in Freeze Window tool mode. Simply left click
and drag your mouse over the area of the screen you wish always see on screen.
I’ll go ahead and create a freeze window around the clock. After I let go of the left
mouse button, I’m in the adjust tool mode. I can resize the window if I like, or if I
left click in the middle of the window and drag, I can move the location of my freeze
window. Once I’m happy with my changes, I’ll right click or press Escape to exit
the adjust tool mode.
Now wherever I am, I’ll be able to see the time visible on screen. Keep in mind that
this is a “live” area of the screen – it’s not a static screenshot. The time will advance
normally and if you move your mouse pointer down to the lower right, you’ll see that
appear in your freeze window, too.
Setting up a freeze window also works really well in Excel. If you are entering a lot of
data and would like to always see how this is affecting your overall total, simply create
a freeze window around the cell you’d like to see.
If you ever want to turn the Freeze Window off, click the Type button and go back down
to “Freeze” and choose “Disable”. You are only allowed one freeze window at
a time so choose wisely!
