An attack on a U.S. consulate in Afghanistan has left several people dead and numerous
injured.
Just before 6 a.m. local time Friday in Herat, a truck sped towards the front gate and attackers
started firing assault rifles and rocket-propelled grenades. The truck then exploded. (Via BBC)
The explosion caused major damage to the front gate of the consulate. American personnel
took shelter and security forces fired back, keeping attackers at bay.
There were not any American casualties. ABC News reports the attackers were wearing suicide
vests, and at least five of them died.

injured. (Via Al Jazeera)
Right now it's looking like about twenty people were injured in the attack. So, who's behind
it?
Outlets including CNN and the BBC report they received word from the Taliban claiming responsibility.

It opened four years ago. Many are noting that just Wednesday, September 11th, was the
one-year anniversary of the attack in Benghazi that left four Americans, including a U.S.
ambassador, dead, and of course, of the 9/11 attacks.
