My name's Ali Bullen and I'm studying a graduate diploma in early childhood teaching.
I'm already a primary teacher. I finished primary teaching degree in '93
so a long time ago, and I've been teaching for a lot of years
and then I decided I wanted to change to early childhood
so studying now to do early childhood teaching.
I work four days a week and I have a family so I have a very busy life
and I needed a course that would fit in around all of that and this course ticked all the boxes for me.
It's very scary re-entering study after a lot of years of not studying.
I was thinking, do I even know how to write an essay anymore
wondering if I could put a sentence together
and it's been really, really gratifying, I guess, to see that I can still succeed as a student
I can get marks that I'm proud of and I can learn new things
I still have that capacity to learn, so that's been really good for me.
A big highlight for me of studying here has been the wealth of knowledge and experience
that lecturers have. They've been really inspiring, the lecturers that I have had so far.
They've just opened up my eyes to a whole new way of teaching that I hadn't seen before
and I've just got so much from the lecturers.
The other students too have been really supportive.
A lot of us have come from a ... well we've all come from a primary background
and a lot of us haven't studied for many, many years
and we were a bit daunted by the prospect of it to start with
but we've ... yeah, just really been supportive of each other
and really enjoyed the process of learning again and studying
and it's been really great. I've really enjoyed it so far.
