I make a difference between when working as a filmmaker. When i work with editing or as a director
Most of the time i work with editing, when i am being hired its mostly as an editor
I always try to do the best of what a director might want.
If people see some kind of signature in my work, in my way of communicating.
Then thats a good thing. It gives credit to what i do and is also what i prefer to do.
I have been editing two swedish features recently.
Johan Klings latest feature, and also a film by Kristian Petri.
Thats more of a traditional way of working.
Thats also a part of what i do that i really like.
Editing should be invisible.
When people notice editing i a feature, its done wrong.
The goal with editing should be telling the story.
I am fascinated with the new ways of remixing material.
The digital revolution has given everyone the chance work creatively.
Its inspiring that everyone can create music or their own films at home.
It has developed into a new form of folk music
Anyone can sit at home and have fun with video editing.
Make their own music. These things really inspire me
Its easy and fun to watch on the tube
I am fascinated by the audiovisual revolution.
Youtube and Vimeo have given people possibilities
They are my largest source of inspiration
I watch stuff there al the time
Its the best library in the world
There you can find whats in at the moment, recuts, mashups
You can find historical films, experimental films from the twenties
Visual music, experiments from the twenties
There is so much there, truly an amazing audiovisual library.
open for everybody
and its constantly growing with inspirational material
The more academic sees this as something thats not real. They want literature and references. Classical stuff.
They just dont see the potential, yet
In the vast library thats available on the web
You can search on any of the experimental filmmakers from the twenties
And find everything done by that filmmaker
Eggerling or hans Richter or any of those guys
fascinating
