OK guys. So today I want to talk to you about political drones, or more
specifically why it's not ok to be one.
Now before i go to that I'd like to tell you what I believe.
I am
what I consider a Libertarian on most political issues,
but I'll get a little bit more specific about my beliefs because they don't
always follow the libertarian view.
I believe in Gay Rights. I believe that people should be free.
People should be free from the bondage of religious
laws that have been created,
because this is a free country.
Religion should not play a part in the laws that we
create
The government should be 100% agnostic when it comes
to religion.
So just like we don't allow Sharia Law here in the United States,
we shouldn't have Biblical Law either
I believe in gun rights. I fully support the second amendment.
I believe that
in a nutshell everyone should be able to own a gun.
Now, I agree that there should be. rigorous background checks and I
believe that mentally disabled
people, and
criminals
should not known guns.
So if you're a a convicted felon you should not have a gun.
Basically, if you really want to sum it up for me, and I can make this really
easy.
It is about Freedom and Liberty,
and for me
Freedom
and Liberty means that I get to do things that you don't like. So if you
don't like guns
as an example
that's too bad
and I get to own one.
Now, in the same vein
people may do things that i don't like.
There may be gay marriage when i don't want it. Now
again, I've said I do support it, but just
playing the other side there.
So there are things that happen that
I'm not going to like but I have to give those people the freedom to wear their
pants saggy
or whatever it is that they want to do,
in order for me to be free.
And that's how it works.
Now we get on a very,
very slippery slope when we start allowing for people to take away the
rights of others
when those others aren't affected by what they do.
So for example when we talk about gay rights, me personally if
two people want to
having gave relationship and live at home together it does not affect me or
hurt me in any way.
Now I might not like it, but
that is my problem and you know when we start allowing rights to be
taken away
because we don't like them, then that opens the door for rights to be
taken away from us
and that's a slippery slope and very very quickly you wind up with a
government that you don't like.
I mean you wind up with rebellions, dictators, communism and socialism,
and and and all those other types of things.
So we have to be very, very careful
about taking away any right of any individual four any reason whatsoever.
So, I'm pretty active on Facebook, and
engage in political conversations fairly often.
I probably shouldn't,
because I wind up
getting attacked by both parties,
being a Libertarian I'm looked at a lot of times as a Social Liberal
and a Fiscal Conservative.
And because of that I get beat up from both sides and and I'm everyone's
enemy.
But that's kind of the point!
And that's what I want to talk to you about, because as a
moderate, or or someone who kind of lives in the middle of spectrum,
you know,
I don't want to be a Libertarian drone either
but it's interesting to me
how when I see people debate on FaceBook they're not willing to give an inch
on anything. So
as I get into arguments with people over gay rights
and they want to say that
you know,
being gay should be banned because the Bible says so,
and all of that, but then they'll turn around and say that there is
horrible problems with
Islam and Muslims and want to ban those as well. So what they
really want is they want freedom for themselves but not for anyone else,
and I have a real problem with that because i think
everyone should be free.
As I get into arguments with people about gun control, you know...
I make statements, and and this is something that really bothers me and
there's this guy...
I'll call them
Neb Savid,
for lack of better name, and you'll probably figure out who is if you follow
me on FaceBook,
but
he argued with me the other day
and
he asked me if i thought guns were more
dangerous than
hammers,
and I said well let's talk about the facts. We're actually trying to ban
assault rifles,
and last year in the United States more people (in fact quite a bit more)
were killed, murdered, (homicide) just to be clear,
with hammers and blunt objects than they were with assault rifles.
So
he immediately turned around and posted on FaceBook, on another forum
that I said
(Mike said) that guns
are not as dangerous as hammers!
But that's not at all what I said!
So I get really frustrated with with that; and that is huge sign
of someone who is a drone.
They're not willing to actually discuss the facts, they just want to
discuss their ideology.
So I think in Penn Jillette summed this up very eloquently when he said "the one thing in
life
that you need to question,
is the one thing that you want to be true",
and I think it's very important that we all here that and that we all think
about it.
Myself included.
This could be something as big as a religion that
you don't questioning and you just believe it wholeheartedly.
Or it could be something as simple as a gambling addiction something
where you've lost thousands and thousands of dollars yet you still
believe, you want to believed that the next time you play you're going to win.
It's those things in life that that we really, really, really, want
to be true
that allow us to overlook facts and things that we shouldn't overlook so
easily
when we're talking about those things or were supporting those things.
So you really, really, really, should think about that anytime you want
something to be true
is when you need to question it the most.
So,
I've rambled on here for just a little bit
and it's probably time to get to the point.
So what is wrong
with believing in things that aren't true or supporting things
that aren't true?
Remember you're only really hurting yourself right? Well that's wrong and
that's why being a political drone
is a huge problem in this country.
Well, just one of the reasons. There's two that i want to talk to you about
today.
The first one is when you when you believe in things that aren't true
you wind up forcing those beliefs on the other people
because you want them to believe too
or you want them to act a certain way or do a certain thing
because of that belief.
And that's when we really get into place we take
rights away from people that we shouldn't be taking away.
We become very passionate about
saving, you know, every last person because of these evil guns, but at the
same time we're not trying to stop the the seventy thousand percent more people
that are killed by drunk drivers every year, because that's not part of
our ideology.
And we don't want anybody messing with our alcohol because we like to drink.
The second problem with being a political drone is that that
we can never compromise for come to a rational solution
on
problems that really do matter.
I want you to imagine a giant waterfall
and at the base of this waterfall there's a town that's
about to be flooded
in front of it.
But people still need this water for drinking, so some water still
has to come through right?
So imagine a Republican and Democrat politician sitting at the bottom of
this waterfall
and debating on what the solution is to fix this and
and the republican says
"Oh! We need to stop this. Let's divert two drops of water over
here!"
Then the liberal guy says "Oh!
Wait! No! Think about the people! We need to only divert one drop!"
and the truth of the matter is that one drop, or two drops.. Neither of those
actually solve the problem and
we're not getting anywhere. So we have to think about things
outside of political boundaries because
you wind up with these these parties that they won't give an inch and they
won't change their belief
and most importantly they won't ever admit when they're wrong,
and when they are wrong they try to cover it up! And I don't care
whether you believe that the Democrats are right or whether you
believe that the Republicans are right
they both lie just as much, and they both cover up things just as much.
They only cover it up
when it's their belief that is impacted though.
And this comes back to the whole
"the very thing you need to question
is the very thing that you want to be true".
So what I'd really like to leave you with is two things. I've already told you the
first one and that is "you really need to question the things that you want to be
true".
The second one I want to leave you with is that it's OK
to gather new information and to change your mind.
It is ok
to be wrong.
When you acquire new information or you learn something you didn't know before...
but even more than that,
I challenge you to want to learn more and want to seek out
and find new information!
Because that's the only way we will ever grow as a society or as a
world and as a whole population of people on this planet is to
continue to learn and grow and challenge every belief that we have
with new information!
I hope you have a good day and thanks for watching!
