Almost three years since the disasters in north-eastern Japan, residents in the city
of Iwaki in Fukushima lit over one thousand candles to commemorate all those who lost
their lives and were forced from their homes.
The offshore earthquake that struck Japan on the 11th of March 2011 set off a tsunami
and meltdowns at Fukushima's nuclear power plant.
This resident says they are constantly reminded of the tragedies.
My best friend died in the tsunami, and I have been dragging that feeling along. I am
reminded when that day comes round again every year.
These candles are decorated with messages of hope and the event's organiser Yukihiro
Kawakami says he hopes they serve as a reminder of the country's past.
We hope that people would not forget about the disasters through this event.
