I wanted to let you in on a secret about renewing your energy every single day and it's not
called Red Bull. I'm going to tell you that every single resource that is precious to
us as business people, as busy working moms, as entrepreneurs I keep preaching is time,
energy and money. All of those are very limited, right? We have 24 hours in the day. We have
limited finances. And if you've ever had little kids or you've been really young and full
of energy and then as you get older you have less energy or your job starts to drive you
nuts, you understand that energy is also very limited. So we all have limited time, energy
and money. The only one that's renewable is energy. I have science backing me up on this.
When you deplete your level of energy, you get frustrated and you're slogging through
the day in a stressful situation and you can't get out of it. But there's a way for you to
renew your energy. And it's really important that you think about how and why you need
to renew your energy. Think about something Henry Ford said. Enthusiasm is at the root
of all progress. Enthusiasm is, what, passion and energy combined, right? If we choose to
slog through the day that's our choice. Science tells us that after 90 minutes of doing one
thing our bodies require a break. And I understand you're going to tell me, 'Kathy, I have no
time. I am, you know, on a dead run. I'm a chicken with my head cut off and I have to
get things done. I don't have any time to take a 20 minute break.' I'm telling you,
if you choose to work an 8 or 10 hour day without taking a break, you're not doing anything
at your peak efficiency. You're slogging through those last few tasks at a much more ineffective
pace and your brain isn't working at its peak performance. So I want you to listen to this
and think about every 90 minutes or so, give yourself a break from doing exactly the opposite
of what you are doing on that task. If you're at your desk and you're writing I want you
to get up. Number one choice is to always get outside. Fresh air, vitamin D, the sun.
pretend you're a cat who loves to be in the sun. That's the number one choice for anybody
to take a 20 minute break. It will revitalize you. I absolutely promise you. If you can't
get outside I want you to get away from your screen. Go eat a healthy snack. Go do something
different. If you're in front of the screen I want you to turn off your phone and not
use your break to be on the phone. I'm telling you it's your choice how to renew that energy,
be revitalized every single day a couple times a day, and you'll get more done and, secret,
you'll feel happier about those days where you feel like you have a lot to accomplish.
I promise you. This is the best advice I can give you for this week. This is your Backpocket
Strategy for the week. Make it a great week. Make sure you hop on over to my Backpocket
Strategy Facebook page and let me know what you think.
