Today we're in Hengelo (NL) at Peugeot Ridderhof
This is a dealership as it should be
The people here really love their brand, which is a rare thing nowadays
Let me show you what they've got..
A black 308 GTI and a black RCZ
With carbon roof and mirrors
Both are remapped, so they now have 240 bhp
No nonense.. They can manage 240 BHP so they will get it..
Here's a 407 WTCC race car from Sweden
Which they race themselves
You really sense the passion for their brand
Which we love to see!
We got this car yesterday at Ridderhof Peugeot
for two reasons..
One: Peugeot NL are having some trouble picking up the phone
two: this is the coolest 208 GTI there is!
It looks amazing with the decails of the 24h of the nurburgring
black racing rims and Eibach Springs
Yesterday we noticed that it is a good daily driver
even with the Eibach springs..
It really is quite comfortable
Today we're going to finf out whether it is as good as we expect it to be, given Peugeot's claims
They say GTI IS BACK
It should be the next 205 GTI
I don't think its smart to make such a claim
The 205 is build in a time when safety wasn't such a big deal..
The 205 weighs less than 1000 kg
And is just dangerous..
So..
I really don't get the comparison!
Yes.. it is a legendary car
But this one has to be really good to compete with it
The 208 GTI has 200 BHP from a 1.6 THP engine
We've driven this engine in the DS3, where it was rubbish
However, nn the RCZ it was very good..
So we didn't know what to expect
0-100 km/h should be done in 6.8 seconds
with a topspeed of 230 km/h
Yesterday, we were at the Autobahn
We wanted to test these claims, like we always do
The 0-100 time was about right..
With a bad start, it still managed to do 7.0
Which isn't bad..
And then it goes and goes...
really not that fast
At about 170 km/h it seems to hit a wall..
It's like it has grown a huge rear spoiler!
It just won't accelerate anymore..
In order to reach 230 km/h, you'd need about 50km's of straight road
Which is unfortunate..
Because it was very well balanced at high speeds!
200 km/h wasn't a problem for its short wheel base
I expected it to be twitchy, especially with the lowered springs
But today we're testing the cornering..
The main complaint is that the GTI is too comfortable..
That it should be more focussed on the driving part
And that the steering wheel is in the line of sight to the gauges
I'm quite tall.. about 1.95m
And I can see them perfectly!
The steering wheel is amazing!
It's like the one on a go-cart!
It lies perfectly in the hands of the driver
And everything that's connected to the steering wheel, feels great as well!
This car really is an eyecatcher!
Because of the great decails
They really make the car..
As standard the GTI is a bit boring..
Mostly seen in red with a chrome grill..
It's just not what it should've been
not sporty enough!
In this trim, with the decails and rims..
the grill has been painted black as well
The 208 GTI should be like this one!
This really is giving me the Peugeot Sport feeling.
The interior is quite nice..
What I don't like are the black/red door handles..
Who came up with that!?
The seats, the steering wheel, the gear lever..
It's all very good!
Which are the most important in a GTI
It all feels very good
I don't get why there are so many complains..
I think this is a very nice little car
The Eibach set and 18 inch rims can be a part of that..
And the looks are modified as well...
But...
Look at this car as what it CAN be
It may be boring as standard..
but with a few modifications you have a great GTI!
It isn't the new 205 GTI..
But it IS a great competitor to the OPC and Clio RS
