This is Tom another students in the iPad
projects. Over to you Tom.
Ok, so I do medical science, on the third year B.Med Sci
and I'm Dyslexic.
There are a fair few apps and just general advances using the iPad.
The main advantage I saw was with PDF files
that I could saved.
As B.MEd Sci is mainly research based,
especially our third year,
we need to read lots of journals,
the iPad makes them lots more accessible,
so no need to carry lots of papers at the same time,
carry them as PDF files, drop them into DropBox and read to your heart's content.
also you can change the font, the contrast, basically it makes it easier to read.
Also, there's an app on here
called "Voice Dream",
that actually reads the text to you
to some extent. That's one of the disadvantage as well
the actual voices on there aren't that
good, because they stop often
If someone could get a new App invented
or improve the current ones
just making the flow better
because often you have to keep pressing "play again"on the iPad.
But apart from that, it's been a great improvement to my learning,
I mean,
Obviously there are many Apps out there
I have not fully extended to get as many as I could,
I just have settled for the free Apps at the moment,
but in the future, I think I could potentially look for some more Apps out there,
definitively to do with the reading, because that is one of my downfalls
reading different journals.
Question; Do you think that with some training period
and some more information about Apps would help?
I think it would be fantastic, yes. It's just, especially in my third year,
I mean, if that would be available that would be quite,..
but it's trying to fit all in at the same time,
but if it was designated, i don't know, it would be a very good thing,
yes
