Making up the Sleeveless top
Pattern Number 532
on angelakane.com
Press the neckline seam towards the facing
Try not to press in creases
You may find it easier
to use a sleeve board for this job
Now for the Under Stitching
Under Stitching the facing
to the neckline seam allowance
helps to keep the facing on the inside
and hidden from view
It also gives you a nice sharp edge
to your neckline
So we stitch from the right side
as close as we can to the neckline seam
So that's done
A row of machining
close to the seam line
The next step is to join the facing
to the bodice around the armhole edge
At the shoulder
be sure to line up the edges here
so that we retain the difference
in shoulder seam width
between the main garment
and the facing
as explained in Part 1
So matching notches
pin and machine the armhole edge
That's done
Now trim surplus seam allowance
and snip the curve as before
Press the seam allowance towards the facing
A sleeve board helps
to get up into the shoulder
Now we Under Stitch as before
It's not essential to get right
up to the shoulder seam
We can now turn the garment
This method is also good
wide enough to do it
use the method I explain in my series
Make a Dress II
That's looking nice
We can give the neckline
and armholes a good press
before we move on to joining
the side seams
Pressing as you go
is definitely the secret
to success with sewing
Always have your ironing board close by
and your iron ready for action
while you sew
Now for the side seams
Open out the facing
and stitch the side seam
bodice and facing in one go
Be careful to match at the underarm
slit side seams at the hem
But this time I'm having a standard hemline
The side seams are stitched and neatened
To keep the facing in place
you can hand sew
the seam allowances together here
or 'Stitch in the Ditch'
which means stitching along the seam line
from the right side for a short distance
under the arm
where it won't be noticed
Now to complete the back seam
Turn back the facing along the back seam
so that you can stitch right sides together
Make sure that the neckline seam
is to the inside when it is turned through
This will form the faced back neckline opening
Once stitched, trim the corners to remove bulk
and turn through
carefully easing out the point
Press for a nice crisp finish

Sleeveless Top will continue
