In a one bedroom flat in Crimea lives a woman, her daughter, her grand-daughter and 55 cats.
There's time to watch TV, surf the web, do some staring competitions, stare at food,
that kind of thing.
Space is limited here but it all seems to be working out, according to Raisa Zhukova.
Not like the current Ukrainian crisis which is playing on her mind.
The more I communicate with animals, the more I'm disappointed by people. In an animal you
can see a true devotion, love and honesty. An animal will never betray you, will never
hurt you as a man can hurt you and betray you. They are different from people as they
don't know how to betray.
She has been saving these street cats for 10 years now, which is why they are so many.
But her feline devotion has not been easy. Raisa had started to build small houses for
the cats outside, but the neighbours weren't happy and set their dogs on them. The cats
are now inside but it's been expensive for the 66-year-old.
First of all I sold all the gold I kept from my youth. Earrings, rings, pendants - because
I have no money to feed them or buy medicine for them. I think that gold is nothing, and
money is nothing compared to life, be it a human life, or a cat's life, or a dog's life,
it is still a life, it is given only once, and it should be taken care of.
Raisa's life may be filled with joy from the cats, but she's fighting for her own life.
She has a serious medical condition which requires treatment, but there's no money.
However, she refuses to give up the cats, unless they are to other cat-lovers.
