Safety with the tunnel command is important just so your dog doesn't get spooked. When
I train puppies even adult dogs I always tell the owners to take their dogs to uncomfortable
settings and challenges just to bring comfort to them in case they ever have to execute
something. For example, with a tunnel many dogs can be claustrophobic so when you start
out with a tunnel exercise many tunnels will collapse to have a shorter distance for your
dog to go through. When your dog master's the shortness you then can extend it just
so they don't get spooked. For people who want to do home made tunnels this can be fun
for the kids, have them set up some chairs, drape over a sheet and coax the dog through
the fallen sheet to act as a tunnel. Once they're comfortable in that setting then you
can invest a little bit of money in a tunnel such as this to ensure your dog won't be spooked
and will nail the obstacle every time.
