You know consumer fireworks can add fun to any party or holiday event. Hi I'm Captain
Joe Bruni with over three decades of firefighting and emergency medical service experience.
Consumer fireworks are not legal in some states. Before purchasing consumer type of fireworks
first check with your local police department, fire department or a quick internet search
to see if these products can legally be purchased and used within your jurisdiction or state.
If they are legal, one of the basic safety rules is to constantly remember these are
for outdoor use only. Consumer type of fireworks, something as simple as the basic sparkler,
to something as complexed as the fountain types of fireworks that emit showers of sparks,
are never meant to be used indoors or under any type of covering like a pavilion or even
a tent. It is a good idea to remain conscious of this at all times and have one designated
individual that is a responsible adult to supervise the use of consumer fireworks. Every
year local fire departments respond to over fifty thousand fires related to consumer fireworks.
A lot of this could be avoided if people would just remember as a good safety general practice
that these were meant for outdoor use only. I'm Captain Joe Bruni, stay safe and we'll
see you next time.
