Hi, guys.
I'm Ruby Rose and I'm an Ambassador for the Australian Human Rights Commission's Back
Me Up campaign.
It's a campaign that is helping kids deal with cyber-bullying.
Now, technology isn't the culprit.
In fact, technology is here to stay, it's kind of fun and, well, some of us are slightly addicted to it.
But in the wrong hands, it can get seriously out of control.
As someone that was bullied in school, I'm so passionate about this campaign and cause.
I mean, school for me was absolutely horrible.
I was verbally abused, I was physically abused, I ended up hospitalised and, to be honest,
I suffered severe depression and had a lot of suicidal thoughts.
And if it wasn't for the fact that a few pupils actually went to some teachers
to alert them about my situation, then I may not be here today.
Actually, come to think of it, I don't even think they were my friends that alerted the teachers.
I think they were just students in the school that saw how badly being beaten
up I was and how much I was being bullied and they thought it was best that someone be
made aware.
So I guess that's kind of the moral of the story - if it wasn't for whoever it was that did that, thank you,
I may not be here today.
So not only am I not alone in this world but I'm not alone in this campaign.
I'm joined by the most talented, brilliant, beautiful Cody Bell, but did you know
he was also really badly bullied before he made it onto the show?
Back Me Up is an online video competition that gives you the chance to stand up, not sit back,
and show us how you would support someone who's being cyber-bullied.
So I want to know what you're doing looking at my mug!
Get schnazzy with your camera and you could be in the running to win some cool prizes,
like how about this, like being able to do a filmmaking course at NIDA, which did I happen
to mention is in Sydney, so it's an all-expenses paid trip where they fly you
to Sydney, you get to study at NIDA and they even put you up somewhere.
It's pretty rad.
Plus, also we have heaps of JB Hi-Fi gift vouchers to give away.
It's easy and here's how.
Number 1, your video needs to be no longer than two minutes, number 2, it has
to be about backing someone up who is being cyber-bullied and, number 3, you need
to be between 13 and 17 years old.
So now all you need to do is Back Me Up.
What are you waiting for?
So Back Me Up.
Don't stand by.
It could be you.
