In this segment, we’ll review the functions of the 3M Brand EM Eye Meter that are specific
to the ESD Events sensor.
Let’s start by plugging the sensor into the meter.
Next, attach the antenna to the input connector by screwing it in by hand.
Then, power on the meter by pressing any spot on the screen for approximately three seconds.
Press the “Menu F” button, and the Navigator appears.
Press the up/down arrows to scroll through the functions and the left/right arrows to
set values and options.
You can use the arrows to adjust brightness, the auto-off-time, and to select the type
of antenna you are using.
Press the center button to return to the main menu.
When you see the triangle symbol, the meter is in All Signal mode.
In this mode, the EM Eye meter will detect most signals, including ESD and some EMI signals.
When you see the lightning bolt symbol, the meter is in True-ESD mode.
In this mode, the EM Eye meter will detect ESD events that are mostly CDM in nature.
Press the ESD mode button to choose between raw input and calculations of Human Body Model
or HBM, Machine Model or MM, or Charged Device Model or CDM.
At the Navigator, press the up/down arrows to set the distance.
The effective distance range is half an inch to 15 inches.
Press the center button to return to main screen.
The threshold arc displays the detection level of ESD Events.
Green means the ESD event is below the set threshold, Red means the ESD event is above
the threshold.
Press this icon to adjust the threshold level.
Press the left or right arrows on the Navigator to set the ESD event threshold voltage.
Press the center button to return to the main screen.
You can view the number of ESD events detected on the ESD Counter.
The maximum event count is 32,767.
After reaching the maximum, the counter will reset to zero.
Press the “Power C” button to clear or reset the screen data.
