Shred for Good
I think when Denard first started working here, he really had never worked
in a warehouse
setting. So he had to learn a few things.
He really came around. He picked up everything very quick.
Well Denard deserved to be nominated
because he's really changed quite a bit
since he first started working here.
He was shy and introverted,
and then within a matter of months he started to come around. His peers really started to
look up to him, and look to him for guidance.
Well sometimes they be having a hard time, and they be asking me for advice.
And I tell what they should do and what they shouldn't do.
A lot of time Denard's peers will come to him instead of Patrick or myself.
And he kind of directs the work flow
of keeping the sorting conveyor moving, keeping the shredder
have paper on it.
I've actually seen him show people how to tie off a bail on the bailing machine.
Ya I helped my friends on the bailer
and the conveyor belt. Sometimes I help them
use the machines, sometimes they need help with this machine right here
when they can't get it working.
I was helping Tim on the shred machine, and I was helping Kim on this sorting machine.
We've taught Denard how to operate all the machines,
He never really had any problems with operating them.
He's a really quick learner. He really is.
It only takes a time or two, and he's got it. Oh ya, I just got my
AA degree recently. And now
I'm wondering what do next. Well one of Denard's short term goals
is to get his forklift certification.
Ya Denard was very cautious at first and
I think a little apprehensive about driving the forklift.
Once we got him on it, he started to pick up on it pretty quick.
He's good if not better than most operators I've seen.
And right now they're helping me do the forklift.
It's kinda fun to drive, and it could help me
in getting other jobs.
I would like to see Denard get another job out in the
community, utilizing the skills he's learned here at Challenge Enterprises. Denard would
like to gain more personal independence and
get his forklift certification, and possibly move out on his own one day.
My parents helped me out.
What would you wanna tell to your parents if you won this award.
Well thanks for not letting me give up.
