Hi, folks. Caveman Klaus here. And today, I'm feeling pretty fired up.
I watched a pretty shocking video yesterday by Jamie Oliver who was talking at TED. And
this was a talk which was given in 2010, and he was talking about the number one killer
in America. The number one killer—you may think it's people getting shot, murdered or
accidents; car crashes or something. No. It's food and obesity-related diseases, heart disease,
diabetes; when you add all these things together. All of them are preventable, and it's within
your own power to stop the number one killer.
So, this was pretty shocking. I watched this video, and Jamie is really genuine, and it
comes across in the delivery that he has a tireless commitment behind changing up the
way that people eat. I wholeheartedly agree with the problem and his message. Changing
up your eating is part of the equation, but also exercise, I believe, which he didn't
touch on, is a big, big thing.
So, what are the main problems?
The primary problem is processed foods and basically not moving enough. I've seen it
in my own life. Years of being a computer programmer. Sat down all the time eating ***
foods. The solution is to eat more unprocessed foods. That's basically fresh fruit and vegetables—your
nuts, seeds, and then you're eating lean beef, lean poultry, lots of fish, these kind of
things. Keep away from the sugar, the processed foods and stimulants, such as caffeine.
Yeah, I completely agree with this and definitely in my own life, I want to improve my eating
and I want to improve my body through exercise. I've mentioned before that I firmly believe
that if you get your body right, that it is a force multiplier for everything else in
your life. You get strong. You get full of energy. It raises your confidence. It has
a ripple effect out into everything else. And I want to help other people achieve their
goals and transform their lives through starting with transforming your body. The core message
is basically transform your eating, transform your moving, your body and transform your
life.
So, what are my next actions?
Basically we're in the month of November, and there's a fantastic cause called "Movember,"
where you grow a mustache for the month of November. I did this in 2009 when I was working.
It's a lot of fun. You get a lot of dirty looks when you're on the train or out in public
spaces, but it's all good. You create a lot of solidarity with the other guys that you
see out there doing this as well. So for the month of November, I'm going to grow a mustache.
I've created the Caveman Club, which is a little group. I'm the team captain, but any
of you guys out there who are watching, join the team and get involved. Grow yourself a
mustache. And if you're a woman watching this, get the men in your lives interested and involved
in this, because it's an amazing cause.
Movember was started in Australia. It has raised millions of dollars to help with prostate
cancer and general men's health. I'm going to take it up a level, though. I want to commit
to—in addition to growing a mustache and cultivating that bad boy every day—to one
commitment in terms of my eating and one commitment in terms of my exercising.
My commitment in terms of eating is I'm going to eat a Paleo Diet. I'm not sure this is
the absolutely best diet, but this is the best that I've found for the moment. That
basically means no sugar, no dairy, no grains. You're pretty much eating meat, fish, vegetables,
and minimal fruit. That's what I'm going to focus on in terms of eating consistently every
day for the month of Movember.
And in terms of exercising, I'm going to try and do crossfit every day. There's a few cases
where I'm not around my crossfit, so I'm going to do some exercise at least twenty minutes
every day consistently, and do some crossfit workout of the day or WOD routines just in
a hotel room or wherever I am. I'm going to try as much as possible to do that consistently.
Now, I want to put this out there as a challenge to people that this number one killer, obesity,
you can take charge and take responsibility for yourself, and you can prevent the bulk
of that becoming a problem by changing the way you eat and the way that you move. So,
I've got a list on my blog, which will be linked to from this site of things that you
can do. Commit to one action from the "Eat" category and one action from the "Move" category
for thirty days.
They don't have to be huge things. The point is that you're doing something, and just that
you're in better shape than yesterday. If you ask yourself, "Am I better than yesterday,"
you're on the right track and you will make progress. We'll have a number of tips to help
you stay consistent with habit formation. I want to share those with you as well.
I want to empower people to make change in terms of your health and your fitness goals.
I want people to live full and long lives, and I want them to live them with energy,
not feeling beholden to a body that doesn't perform and doesn't give you strength and
energy and empower you.
So, that's me. I've called this the "Caveman Cure Challenge." And please sign up. All you
have to do is basically commit to one thing from the "Eat" category, one thing from the
"Move" category. If you're a guy, you can grow a mustache, as well. To up the ante,
join the Caveman team. I'll have the link off here. And if you're a girl, there's a
category for Mo sisters to be involved with Movember.
But I'm feeling pretty charged up and excited about this, and I'm out here. Ask me any questions
you've got about exercise, or nutrition, or habits, or mindset. I'm here to help. Let's
kick this off. Eat and Move to live a full life. Okay. Caveman Klaus. Have a kickass
day.
