Hi everyone. Ronis here from Blueprint Product Design. Over the years we have a lot of clients
that come to us quite frustrated because they've gone through a design process and they've
not necessarily got the outputs they were expecting from that design. What I'd like
to do with this video is give you a few tips on the different types of designers that are
actually out there; and the kinds of things you should be looking out for because it's
important as a client to understand who you're getting involved with and what experience
they have and what outputs they can actually deliver. They key things to look out for is
A. How much experience has the designer or the design firm had and how many of the products
that they're talking to you about (or showing on their website) have actually been manufactured
and are sitting on shelves being sold today? The second thing to look out for is the kind
of thought process that the designers have. When they talk to you about the product are
they just asking about aesthetics and materials in isolation or are they trying to encompass
a story around your business and the product that you're trying to bring out there? I'm
not sure if this is useful but some of the things that can be looked out for is the kind
of training the designers have had. Over the past ten years product design has become very,
very popular simply because innovation in the UK is extremely high. And a lot of universities
offer product design courses. These courses can vary from industrial product design, consumer
product design, creative product design. And each one has its own strengths, but if you
want someone that's going to be able to design something, manufacture it and understand the
whole thing together you need someone who's more towards the industrial product design
(and ideally has experience in the market of actually designing something, manufacturing
it and getting it ready for use so you can simply just sell it). So what is industrial
product design to you? Is that the kind of designer that you want to work with? Sometimes
it might not be necessary. And don't think that you won't find creative designers, consumer
product designers that can't give you what you want. All I'm trying to do is make sure
that you look out for the right things that match your business. Feel free to comment
and give us any feedback. I'd love to hear your experiences when working with product
designers. And maybe I can try giving you some tips on the kind of things you can look
out for in your specific cases moving forward. Thanks for watching.
