How often have you been at a networking event and you find that you spend loads and loads
of time later with follow up coffee meetings that don't lead to anything - it's a bit of
a waste of your time? A couple of ground rules about coffee meetings: before arranging a
coffee meeting have a conversation to check that you both have something to gain from
that conversation. If it's one way you're getting into dangerous territory. The person
you're talking to should disclose what they are looking for by having a conversation with
you. You don't need to do it at the event - follow up with a phone call. You don't need
to go straight to a coffee meeting, have an exchange with people that you think are people
that are worth following up with of any kind. Check you both have something to gain. Don't
go straight to a coffee meeting.
