dr lend support of that's photo is the arthur of book called a return to
healing which is available at w_w_w_ dot he returned to healing dot com
was shocking that that was that was available doctor siegler glad you got it
pretty likely what do you help us in any way to get the book id corporate them
about
right or your local book independent booksellers you can order from them as
well the both those called a return to healing dot should have
you have practiced for a great deal of time what you know many people would
refer to as for you you call it integral or integral health medicines os
integrated held an integrative medicine zara
yeah ethnic way of looking at the bigger says and i think what we're doing health
care to pay a great writer
if people something a pill or some kind of trees and get them back on their feet
back to work
and don't look any deeper into what the cause of the things are so western
medicine is really a model
but look it reading symptom not looking at deeper causes
right
putting in
that search for what the causes the root causes of any kind of ailment would be
to get sort of makes it integrated health because you're taking the eastern
sense of medicine and and planning with the western medicine sir
there here's a look at all different kinds of republican help somebody we
need
we need to use that fifty percent of americans are chronically
and that's far too many people are sick so we basically failed at trying to fill
that problem
so with that look we can take all the help we can get it we want to use any
therapy that's out there and i a patient wants to do it
we take a look at it and that's what we call integrative medicine
muscles you just don't know
when you know that the debate of course and the conversation certainly the
political conversation i think it actually goes beyond those those limits
on is about health care in america now about the legislation before congress
about the white house is proposals
and and that you know it's gotten pretty ugly out there as you know one but and i
think the ugliness is taken away from what the actual work at hand is and that
is is creating a health care system that gets coverage for americans you are a
physician's and and you have clearly a background in different kinds of
medicine but that as a doctor you're somebody who would be in some way
affected by this what do you see both of you can only let's take your
a the analog of what your your practices to hal america should be treating health
care i mean we could be putting a band-aid on on on the health care
problem in america by funding it getting some sort of compromise out of the
congress and have a health care
or we could look at the root problem so what would the mixing of the
east and west as as an approach to our health care crisis in america how would
you see that as as
you know and how would you address that we're going to be a part of it for sure
michael our area got at the start but the real problem i have to do with
america fell
every congressman little its credibility
it is totally looking america people down
have not come up with a plan
and brought obama i'm hoping welcome will still come up end had come up with
some kind of pollution
uh... nothing is going to change the way things are going
the protecting the corporate america
and corporate america is what congress is responding to the not responded to
with the people
so we've got to find the systems are that we we develop
they can bring better health care to its if it's not just about giving american
every american health care which i think that's right
that's an important part of that is never going to happen the way congress
is moving now
i think i'll pairs off the table
the public option is off the table
we're looking at doing with the insurance company lobby their are trying
to accomplish by spending a million dollars a day lobbying for congress
that's totally unacceptable
and even if we had a system that was a single-payer
and everybody was getting health coverage
it wouldn't be any it wouldn't work
because we have the fifth of the cost too much is not safe
has resulted in fifty met fifty percent of american having a chronic disease
we need a shift the paradigm to one debate is based on lifestyle medicine to
keep the healthy and until that happens we're going to be stuck in the gamma ray
m i don't think the i don't think it being stalled
by congress in the next
xx
the health care issue and you know i i i am
john kennedy said we're going to go to the moon in leave live to see it limited
to the moon that this seems to be the the
initial stages action probably the clinton health care plan the fiasco of
nineteen ninety three was was the
e the initial failures but the initial conversation certainly in my political
awareness of health care though it's been talked about since harry truman
what what do you see
as what what has to happen now that you know and just not just the public option
verses the cooper that they're talking about now but wait where what's the
roots of the solution to the health crisis and i were a lot of people are
prepared to pack a picnic timberland
congress is not represent
i mean there everything big pharma pharmaceutical industry
and the insurance industry ought to give us
stuff about us
sixty percent sixty nine percent of america wants a single player affair
plant
reliably responded to that
it very simple there corrupt
and as long as that's a situation that we have to go back the grass roots
and reclaim our democracy through the town hall meetings which i think i
started to spring up all over the place
and if we can't we do
grassroots approaches
for example like what we're doing a little town called walnut creek
california
that's coming out about fifty thousand people
is wheaton taken nutrition to the table purcell
and what we have done it's come up with us
and expert panel of people of of health care professionals doctors and patrician
et cetera from a transportation
and decide that we should have no high priestess corn syrup and the first thing
really is
no transfatty and proficient fiber
now we're going to tell you that hid every city
in contra costa county which is that which is nineteen mares
every mary taken a pledge
to follow those and those doug for those principles
in every meal they serve it every vending machine within their city
this is the kind of movement that i think america to stand up and looked at
it's we the people that have to go back to to set the standards for what we want
this country because we can't depend on government to do it for us
and so i don't want to with dot now buses you know i don't disagree with
that
and as part of it that sounds fantastic in the real sensible word no part of it
the third what's happening in contrast in income prosecuting can happen
anywhere in america though it you know there's a d
i would say an epidemic of progressive thought in in parts of northern
california in the state of california that doesn't exist in some the places
where these town halls are cropping up again
the point is the we elected to the that the country elected
a president and put into place of congress in the senate
that were you know that were charged with doing this that was one of the
reasons that the a lot of people voted for this man and for this congress as it
stands now because of the time it would take to get every mayor to make that
pledge there is before the country at chance of beginning reforming the health
care industry and as a physician what would be the place then and is a better
question will be the place where you would like to see a start knowing that
what the reality is that i have no went number you know what's before
congressman or her character not going to do it a couple burger
it's being paid too much money by corporate america and for their response
because i have not to you and me
they don't residence anymore
so if we want to make a change
we have to either vote for people of all do that we have to clean up the
corruption in congress
and relationships they have with with uh... big pharma and the insurance
industry
or there's no place to go
so that's why i say we can't do it at the grassroots level we'd get a two
hundred years ago
we need to do it again
and i'd
highlight the center that's true and i hope that it is true despite that ever
recovered
except later i wouldn't say it seems like a big stretch it just seems like
it's certainly doesn't seem like something that isn't
media the going to happen i think both of us would probably agree that
well a sucker for a couple of years forget where we are trying to say i hope
it will take a couple of years to reclaim our democracy right well you
know it in in terms of the allen you know that that may have maybe a foregone
conclusion but but in terms of the way
we approach this issue minority opinion here
okay let me try and address
that i have this
uh... realistic view
of how congress etc
now if we could silver congress up somehow and get them to be responsive to
what we the people want
that would be a wonderful thing at the drain
my dream of the brock obama quite a lot of faith in
will step up to the plate i think it was congress tropical
come up with nothing
they don't have a plan that makes any sense in terms of restoring health care
to how we need to have a and how it was maybe a hundred years ago or actually
cared about people
rather than try to get them off back on their feet back to work
so if we can stop if we could
have a way to have a voice
there that would make a big difference
to give them idea to what to do to try and
and rearrange the chairs an attack on the deck of the titanic as it's going
down
doesn't make much sense
and that the people were facing
so i don't know where to answer your question
that will because i don't see it happening i don't see
congress voting on a bill
that's going to give a sweat what we need in this country to have health care
status preventive as well as good as uh...
serving all the people in this country
and let's face it
forty seven million americans have no health care odometer working american
they make too much money to qualify for medicare
they don't make enough to qualify for insurance
and and their another hundred million but if they had a major sickness would
go bankrupt
sixty-two percent of the bankruptcy in this country or because of health care
dept
now what are we doing to help those people may have to suffer
so i don't have any hope
for this congress to do anything
but was
and if i
and i and you know and and that the answer may be absolutely nothing from
what you've heard but i am
i'm asking you as a doctor
and the doctor who feels very passionate
about this clearly
what would you see as something
in realistic terms he could come out of this congress that would be a start
they would make yourself you will need either on the right path right now
our america are talking about prevention
and include vat in some kind of process
how they could talk about finding simpler way too
fitted have a system on or we could practically get insurance for our
coverage health care for everybody
we should levels the playing field so that people in in in nutrition and
homeopathy in it
chinese medicine
and all different kinds of compliments in alternative medicine access to the
research dollars it at the national institutes of health
we can do something about changing that
and but i don't see it happening because began
there such a stranglehold from the big pharma the pharmaceutical industry
on the national institutes of health and research
we already have on the top defense for a couple of shelter that medicine
it if you get the patent but maybe two hundred million dollars
out of a twenty five billion dollar budget to do research
and it doesn't get done
so we have our complete medical freedom we need a cup away that
we could have a constitutional amendment that says
we in america have the right to choose to kind of health care that we want
we don't have that we don't have medical freedom in this country
so you can't compete if you're a compliment you alternative medicine with
the mainstream
the insurance industry is luck that up and has an alliance with the doctor to
make that the position option in america
you know i can see the kind of changes we want
but we can open pressed for that kind of sex
indeed you are of the book is called a return to healing doctor lend support
those its author and and a very interesting that it's often doctor thank
you so much for coming on the show in sharing is your viewpoints as a as a
physician at a time when everybody's talking about health care my pleasure
thanks a lot t
