>> My name is Asia McCleary Gaddy, and I'm a current junior here at Rice University.
And I guess what I love about Rice was it was not only a step out of the box
educationally, but also culturally.
I'm from New York, lived there all my life, New York.
And coming to the south was a big shock to my family.
Whether it was because I was going to Texas, they're thinking dirt roads,
everybody riding horses, or because it was Rice and they had never heard of it.
Definitely was a big step for me.
And if it wasn't for Rice my other competitive school was the HBCU, Howard University.
Every time I think about it I'm just like I'm so glad I came to Rice.
Because it's just changed me emotionally, spiritually, educationally -- everything.
So I'm just thankful for Rice and all alumni, black or non-black, and go Rice!
